Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
our services
The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program provides a medically supervised and supportive environment to lower a patient’s risk of future cardiac or pulmonary problems. Physical conditioning, nutritional counseling and stress reduction are important segments of the rehabilitation program and include organized classes that teach patients the management of their disease process and assist with basic stretching and conditioning.
Our skilled team includes Respiratory Therapists, Registered Nurses, and Exercise Physiologists who provide unique expertise to help patients live their best quality of life.
The program includes:
- Exercise: Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation includes exercises to improve endurance, strength and flexibility. Exercises may involve walking, riding a stationary bike or even exercising in a chair. Medical professionals will check your pulse, heart rate and oxygen levels during exercise and monitor heart rhythms using an Electrocardiogram (EKG) monitoring system to keep you safe while exercising.
- Education: Patients learn how the heart and lungs work and how their conditions can affect breathing or other tasks. You will also learn about your medications, how to use oxygen if your doctor prescribes it and how to quit smoking.
- Tips and techniques: Our cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program will teach you techniques to reduce shortness of breath, blood pressure or other conditions. You will also get relaxation tips and learn how to pace yourself throughout the day so you have more energy.
- Support: Our program includes support groups where you can talk with and learn from others with chronic lung disease. Our expert medical staff is also here to help provide answers to your healthcare questions.
