SPECIALIZATION
Every patient is unique and has distinct goals for their personal health. Please note that not every patient is a candidate for all these treatment methods. We will provide education to you about your specific circumstances and which treatment options are appropriate for you.
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
This method for aortic valve replacement is performed using minimally invasive techniques and typically requires 2 nights in the hospital. A bioprosthetic valve is inserted through an artery typically in your groin and deployed in the aortic valve. The procedure is performed in the cardiac catheterization suite.
Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement (SAVR)
This method for aortic valve replacement is performed using a surgical incision in the chest. This technique provides both mechanical and bioprosthetic options for replacement. Expected stay in the hospital is 5-7 days. This procedure is performed in the operating room.
Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty (BAV)
This procedure uses a balloon inserted through an artery typically in your groin to dilate the opening of your aortic valve without replacing it with another valve. Expect to stay at least one night in the hospital. This therapeutic procedure may serve as a bridge to further treatment, an adjunct to medical management, or as a palliative treatment option.
Medical Management
A procedure is not always the best course of treatment for patients. We will coordinate with your cardiologist or primary care physician to optimize your medical therapy with a goal of decreasing the impact of your condition on your daily activities.
