The County of Santa Clara Health System is committed to better health for all, regardless of immigration status. We encourage people to access the healthcare they need and our hospitals, clinics and health facilities are open to everyone.

Under federal law, hospitals that receive federal funding – like Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, St. Louise Regional Hospital and O’Connor Hospital -- are required to care for patients who need emergency care, regardless of their immigration status or whether they are insured. Federal policy says immigration agents should avoid stopping, searching or arresting immigrants in hospitals, health clinics or doctors’ offices except in limited circumstances. Patients and those seeking help should know that the County of Santa Clara Health System will honor their right to privacy. Patients will not be asked about immigration status when they come in to receive care and federal and state law protects our patients' medical records.

The health of our county is improved when all residents, including undocumented immigrants, have timely access to care that prevents the spread of disease. The hospitals, clinics and facilities of the County of Santa Clara Health System are the main safety net providers of health care services in our County and will continue to provide services and be available to care for every patient who needs our services regardless of immigration status, ability to pay, race, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
